  2. The basic meaning of「博」is "wide" but only in abstract matters.
(For example, when you say "the garden is wide", you should use 「広」)

    So...

    【博識】
    Formal expression of "Wide knowledge".
    For example, 「先生は、たいへん博識な方です」
    Frankly,「先生は、物知りだね!」

    【博学】
Almost the same as 博識, but the nuance is limited to scholarly.
つまり、if you know how to make 豆腐 from soy beans, you are 博識
    (=物知り)but not 博学.

    【博士】
Doctor (who is expected to be widely well-informed!)
